Intergenerational Woodturning Class
John C. Campbell Folk School
One Folk School Road
Brasstown, NC
July 17 - 23, 2022

In this class students will learn the fundamentals of woodturning. We will go through the techniques of creating the general shapes such as coves, swells, flats and beads that make up the most complex forms, creating a wooden mallet to fit your hand. Building on this knowledge, we will design and create the chair legs, stretchers and spindles. We will then attach our components to the seat using a wedged through mortise and tenon joint. Throughout the class we will cover the proper method of sanding for a smooth finish, revealing the uniqueness of each piece of wood; learn different methods of assemblish and clamping; and review different kinds of glues and finishes.
